Luxe vs. Classic Prints
Luxe vs. Classic Prints
Luxe Prints – Premium prints on a variety of high-end fine art paper options and frames for a sophisticated presentation. Some fit standard frames, while others maintain non-standard historical proportions.
Classic Prints – Affordable, high-quality prints with a smoother finish for sharp detail designed to fit off-the-shelf frames. Classic prints have the word 'classic' above the title and a letter which shows the sizes that the print comes in. Size A– 4x6", 12x18", 16x24", 20x30" B– 6x8", 9x12", 12x16", 18x24", 24x30" C– 8x10", 16x20"
Understanding Our Print Sizes
Understanding Our Print Sizes
Historical prints vary in proportion based on their original format. Whenever possible, we match them to the closest standard size, using common print ratios like 2:3 (e.g., 8x12) or 3:4 (e.g., 9x12). However, resizing some prints can distort the artwork's integrity, so we can only offer them in their original proportions. Additionally, we use different printers for our product lines, and not all sizes are available with every printer.
This reprint is a stunning example of Art Deco illustration, originally hand-painted using ink and gouache on paper. The composition showcases a sophisticated couple, their graceful figures framed by large windows and elegant drapery in the background. The detail and symmetry creates a visually striking scene that exudes luxury and refinement. The art was likely created for an event or advertisement, and captures the glamorous, modern aesthetic of the early 20th century.
Why We Picked It
We selected this artwork for its stunning composition and rich color palette. The focal point is two women draped in flowing gowns, one of whom pushes away luxurious curtains as if revealing a hidden world. Behind them, large mullioned windows framed in gold stand out, creating a striking contrast against the deep black background. This dramatic use of color and form, with the vibrant tones set against darkness, draws the eye to the figures and the architectural elements, creating a sense of depth and mystery. The artwork masterfully combines fluid movement with geometric precision, embodying the bold sophistication of the era.
Notable Context
The Art Deco movement was synonymous with luxury, modernity, and style. The illustration reflects the artistic and cultural trends of the period, characterized by geometric forms, bold colors, and elegant designs. During this time, fashion illustration flourished, often featured in prominent magazines or programs for high-society events. The use of glamorous imagery, like this, was pivotal in advertising high fashion and lifestyle, especially in French publications such as Le Gout du Jour and La Gazette du Bon Ton. These magazines were instrumental in shaping the tastes of the time, with illustrations playing a key role in the visual storytelling of fashion and culture.
